Supporting jobseekers in Kosovo with long term employment

May 13, 2020

Many unemployed individuals in Kosovo, some of whom registered a long time ago as jobseekers at the Employment Offices, are, at last, benefiting from the opportunities to become part of the labor market.

Naser Gashi, a father of two young children, decided to visit the Employment Office to get informed for the potential job opportunities. He was fortunate to find a job and started working at the “Stone Castle Vineyard” Company in Rahovec/Orahovac in April 2019. He works at the vineyards, taking care of grape cultivation, something that is a family tradition. The opportunity to translate this tradition into a profession is very important for him.

Meriton Ramadani was also a long-time registered jobseeker. He is now employed at “NT "MICHELIN-1" in Shtime/Štimlje, working as an auto-mechanic since March 2019. Mr. Ramadani says he’s been fortunate to find a job in the profession he likes and also to have the chance to provide for his family.

Mr.Gashi and Mr.Ramadani are only two among 391 beneficiaries of the Wage Subsidy Programme, who received support from UNDP through Active Labor Market Programs 2(ALMP2) during 2019. The Wage Subsidy Programme is implemented in cooperation with the Kosovo Employment Agency and businesses in Kosovo with an aim to provide support to jobseekers in Kosovo for long-term employment, by subsidizing businesses ready to hire them.
