At the times when we battle the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are finding ways to give our own, however modest, contribution.

Lirije Mahmuti who runs her tailoring StartUp business in Podujevë/Podujevo was registered as a jobseeker at the employment office and has been supported through  the Self Employment component of UNDP’s Active Labour Market Programmes 2. Since then, she has been doing her best to support her family by offering tailoring services to several local businesses and other organizations. As the pandemic hit and movement became restricted, she has temporarily limited her daily activities to keep her family safe at home. However, she is committed to helping the community and is doing so by sewing protective masks for people of rural and urban areas and Family Medical Center in Podujevë/Podujevo municipality.

Another beneficiary of ALMP2, Magbule Ferati from Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje is sewing masks, too. She had to change her priorities, to find a way to survive the market but also to give her contribution for citizens in her municipality.

“It’s a bit difficult for me at this time to find suitable materials for producing masks but I am using other materials that I already have in my stock. I am also sewing masks for children too, in smaller sizes”, says Ferati.

These two women are among many other beneficiaries of UNDP’s Active Labour Market Programmes (ALMP2) and Kosovo Employment Agency, who are contributing during these challenging times to helping the community and keeping themselves safe by providing protective items.

The Self-Employment Programme is part of the comprehensive efforts of the Employment Agency in cooperation with UNDP’s Active Labour Market Programmes 2 aiming to promote   viable businesses capable of surviving in the competitive market, while promoting self-employment as an active labour market measure and develop the private sector and  job creations.
