Continuing the support for jobseekers in Kosovo

July 28, 2020

Blerim Morina has been planning to set up his hairdressing business for many years but he thought it will remain just a dream and had little hope of having his own shop one day.

He realized his ambition and he is now a proud owner of a barbershop in city centre of Pejë/Peć, established last year. It’s the business of his dreams, that serves as a motivation to start his job in a good mood every day. Blerim was supported by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kosovo and the Kosovo Employment Agency (KEA) through the Self Employment Programme, helping his efforts to set up his business.

“I have a long experience as a hairdresser and that’s why I ‘ve always dreamed of having my own barbershop”.

The situation arising from the pandemic and subsequent quarantine has been quite challenging for Blerim as well, but his great will and dedication to his clients has helped him get back on track fast. Blerim is very happy to be able to continue working and to support his parents, as the only one employed in the family.

UNDP, through the Active Labour Market Programmes (ALMP 2), in cooperation with KEA , is enhancing its support for the unemployed people in Kosovo. This is made possible through various programmes that were announced at the end of July such as, Self-Employment Programme , Wage Subsidy Programme, and On-The Job Training Programme, for unemployed registered jobseekers in Kosovo.

The increased support for the unemployed jobseekers isespecially beneficial at this difficult time of COVID-19 pandemic with the aim of creating more opportunities in the labour market.

In addition, we’re supporting the Enterprises/businesses who express their interest in hiring registered job seekers and also as an effort to help economic recovery in Kosovo.
