Striving for a More Transparent Municipality

Nov 16, 2015

Preparations are underway to host the event which gathers teams of bright young minds that will solve three of the proposed problems that the Municipality of Gjakovë/Djakovica needs help tackling. The venue at BoneVet Maker-space will be transformed to host these teams, as they compete during an extensive weekend web-solution development marathon, for a chance at winning €4,000 in cash-prize. The winners will then have to develop their solutions that are to be used by the citizens of Gjakovë/Djakovica.

“It’s great to have such an opportunity to develop something that will help out many people. It’s also great that the Municipality is embracing the technological innovations and really opening up to new ideas. It gives me hope.” – said one member of the competing team.

The reason Digigjakova is happening is simple: The Municipality of Gjakovë/Djakovica wants to open-up even more to its citizens. The problems that will be solved through innovative technologies include: a transparent and more convenient way of applying for job positions (e-recruitment); a faster and easier way to file complaints (e-complaints), and a more open/transparent and better spending mechanisms (e-spending). By selecting three teams to solve each of these issues, the Municipality will have three important tools in its e-governing portfolio that will be used to make processes even more transparent, convenient, and wide-reaching for its citizens.

Digigjakova is a continuation of events organized by the Support to Anti-Corruption Efforts in Kosovo (SAEK) project. The first one was DigiPrishtina which produced e-spending and e-recruiting tools that are now used by the Municipality of Prishtinë/Priština.
