UNDP and Local Officials Discuss Security Situation

UNDP Kosovo Small Arms Control (KOSSAC) project in close cooperation with Municipality of Pejë/Peć organized a roundtable “Security Situation in Municipality of Pejë/Peć, Challenges and priorities, as an activity of the Project Freedom from Fear – Enhancing Community Safety in Kosovo which will be implemented during this year.


During this meeting KOSSAC staff presented the initial results of the Baseline Assessment “Fear of Crime and Victimization Study” in order to get the feedback from Municipal Community Safety Council representatives in Pejë/ Peć and identify the possible challenges that could be addressed by the project activities in increasing the community safety with the aim to facilitate the synchronization between the local operational plans of the Kosovo Police and the Community Safety Plans.


The Mayor of Pejë/Peć Mr. Gazmend Muhaxheri confirmed his support and willing to cooperate with KOSSAC project in addressing community safety cooperation and informed the participants about the work that Municipalities is doing in close cooperation with Police, Municipal Directorates and Civil Society organization in addressing safety concerns and increasing safety in the municipalities.


In general the safety concerns brought up by the MSCS members during the roundtable and which will be analyzed in details in the KOSSAC upcoming workshop in Pejë/Peć in drafting safety community plans were regarding the school and traffic safety, thefts and burglary prevention, lightening of the streets, prevention of begging and the need for increasing the local capacities and promoting the results in the field of safety and crime prevention.
