Richardson visits Prizren, meets Mayor Haskuka

UN Development Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Ulrika Richardson, met on Friday, 20 July, with Mayor of Prizren, Mytaher Haskuka.

In their first official meeting, they discussed the current situation, challenges and problems but also priorities and opportunities in the municipality. Mayor Haskuka emphasized the importance of economic development, inclusion of Diaspora in investment projects, possibility of rural tourism and the importance of protection of environment.

Richardson, based on her previous experience, acknowledged the intensity of the job and the wide range of issues that need to be dealt with as a municipal Mayor. She also recognised Prizren as an inspiration for peaceful cohabitation of its multi ethnic population and diverse cultural heritage.

Haskuka and Richardson also touched base on the newly commenced project for rehabilitation and protection of cultural heritage in Kosovo in which, one of the beneficiary municipalities is Prizren. Mayor Haskuka reiterated his commitment to fully support the project for conservation of sites of historic importance.

Another topic of discussion was the upcoming Dokufest, festival of short and documentary films that will take place in August. The festival was supported by the UN Agencies in Kosovo since its first edition and Ms. Richardson was very pleased to stress the cooperation in supporting the continued success of the Dokusfest that, this year, will bring together people from all over the world to celebrate and dialogue around the theme "reflections" which is increasingly needed in our complex world.

At the end of the meeting, Ms. Richardson wrote her impressions of the visit in the “Golden Book” placed at the Town hall entrance.
