Strengthening of private sector in service of better future for KosovoOct 20, 2017
The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and its Employment Agency and the Ministry of Trade and Industry and its Kosovo Investment and Enterprise Support Agency (KIESA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), opened today 2017-2018 round of the Internship programme for supporting recent graduates to gain work experience and launch their careers.
The ceremony started with full room of interns, future professionals. The Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr. Skender Reçica congratulated future interns and said that “This programme fits perfectly into Economic Strategy of Kosovo and reforms that will strengthen economic environment in Kosovo”.
In his introduction, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Bajram Hasani, expressed that this kind of programmes develop different aproaches in reducing unemployment and he hopes that in collaboration with other ministries an Employment Fund will be created very soon. “I have to say that Ministry of Trade and Industry will focus on empowering local production and that means the private sector”.
The UNDP’s Deputy Resident Representative, Ms. Alessandra Roccasalvo connected internship programme to many aspects of Kosovo development and said “If you look at SAA agreement many chapters are about trade and economy. This is very important, especially for strengthening private sector”.
UNDP, under the ALMP project, and in close collaboration with private sector enterprises offered internship placements to over 200 additional young women and men, expanding the last year’s cohort of 130 women and men. These young people will get a chance to gain the knowledge and skills during three months of internship in private companies throughout Kosovo. One of the participants in this round is Albana Demiri: “As a future intern, I am looking forward to proving myself and in upscaling my skills. When I came to the Employment Office they instructed me and provided me with the right information about this programme. I hope after three months of internship, the company will offer me a job”.
The programme aims to give unemployed job seekers recently graduated in higher education institutions the opportunity to do a 3-month internship in private sector enterprises to support sustainable employment in Kosovo.
