Aid for Trade Continues to Foster Sustainable GrowthMar 27, 2015
Aid for Trade (AfT) project shared its up-to-date achievements at the fifth Project Board Meeting held on 26 March.
Present at the event were Ms. Anne Meskanen, Chargée d’Affaires at the Embassy of Finland, Ms. Hykmete Bajrami, Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms. Alessandra Roccasalvo, UNDP Kosovo Deputy Resident Representative, partners and other representatives of Kosovo institutions.
During the meeting it was emphasized that the project continued to foster sustainable and inclusive economic growth through promoting trade and enhancing Kosovo’s competitiveness, by strengthening capacities to participate in and benefit from international trade. As a result of these efforts 54 new jobs, enhancing the lives of 54 families, were created in 2014.
In addition, project supported 850 businesses and 180 farmers through direct interventions and investments to eventually increase and enhance production, position better in regional markets and beyond thus expand businesses and generate new employment opportunities.
Aid for Trade will continue the close cooperation with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, other institutions at the central and local levels, private sector and other stakeholders in 2015 as well. The project will continue to support concrete interventions required to improve Kosovo’s long-term trade and economic performance by strengthening capacities to participate in and benefit from international trade.
In addition, through joint activities with other UNDP projects, AfT will contribute to enhancing economic development by increasing employment opportunities for young women and men and to attracting local and foreign investment.
