United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kosovo signed a Letter of Agreement with the Assembly of Kosovo (AoK) to jointly establish the AoK’s Parliamentary Internship Programme. The Letter was signed by Andrew Russell, UN Development Coordinator and Secretary General of AoK, Ismet Krasniqi.

The overall objective of the Programme is to help address the needs of the Assembly and to encourage and support the interests and involvement of young people in the political institutions of Kosovo. UNDP will assist the Assembly in recruiting twelve interns through a fair and transparent selection process, for a period of one year, starting in August 2014.

In his opening speech Mr. Krasniqi expressed the AoK’s gratitude for UNDP’s long-term support to parliamentary development of the AoK and focused on the high importance of establishment of Parliamentary Internship Programme. He considered this as another step towards bringing the AoK closer to young people of Kosovo by also providing them with opportunity to learn and possibly gain employed with AoK administrative structures.

Mr. Russell, expressed UNDP’s appreciation on  the work and cooperation with the Assembly through the years through Parliamentary Development for Social Policies project, and considered the establishment of the Programme as one of UNDP’s supporting steps that will be followed by continued cooperation and support to AoK in fulfilling its parliamentary mandate and obligations towards Kosovo EU integration processes.
