Efforts to Raise Awareness on Climate Change in Kosovo ContinueJul 18, 2014
Support for Low Emission Development in Kosovo Project, funded by Austrian Cooperation Funds, started in July 2013. It’s a regional project in which UNDP Kosovo is implementing the second component which aims to support the Government of Kosovo to mainstream climate change concerns into sectoral and overall development priorities, thus enabling Kosovo to deal with climate change-related issues, and consider it not only as a separate environmental issue but as an issue of sustainable development. The project is expected to increase the capacity for low emission climate resilient development at national and local level, enable development of low emission climate resilient strategy, and promote sustainable energy policies and programs and enhance public awareness concerning energy efficiency. In 2014, additional activities are already taking place at municipal level in cooperation with local partners, actors and stakeholders to raise awareness on energy efficiency and use of green energy.
Energy Efficiency I
The Regional Environmental Center (REC) Office in Kosovo was contracted to organize and deliver two separate trainings for municipal officers and CSOs representatives on design of energy efficiency projects. Two-day trainings were conducted for 3 municipalities (Gllogoc/Gllogovac, Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje and Obiliq/c) and for 18 Civil Society Organizations. A meeting with all stakeholders involved in the trainings that were held in May 2014 was organized in late June for Design of Energy Efficiency projects. The meeting brought together representatives of central and local institutions and representatives of non-governmental organizations who discussed further actions and cooperation for implementation of the future activities.
