UNDP Kosovo’s Anti – Corruption Programme, funded by the Swiss Development and Cooperation (SDC), aims to have a positive impact on reducing the level of corruption in Kosovo by strengthening institutional transparency, accountability and integrity, with a particular focus on empowering citizens and access to information. The Programme takes an innovative and holistic approach by focusing on different levels of intervention, including the institutional, sectoral and municipal/local level. In doing so, UNDP works directly with central and local government authorities, the judiciary, as well as civil society and the citizens themselves.

In the light of this work, UNDP aims to work closely with Municipality of Gjakovë/Djakovica and intends to implement jointly various activities during the three – year anticorruption programme. Activities implemented on the basis of this MOU are expected to have a positive impact on strengthening the capacities of the Municipality to identify and prevent corruption in selected departments within municipality. One of the first activities is the development of the Integrity Management System (IMS). According to Kosovo’s Anti-Corruption Strategy 2013 – 2017 adopted by the Kosovo Assembly, all public institutions are required to develop and implement the IMS. Municipality of Gjakovë/Djakovica will be the second local government in Kosovo (after Prishtinë/Priština) to implement and adopt such a system.

Furthemore, UNDP will support the Municipality of Gjakovë/Djakovica in establishing and enhancing existing modern communication tools, including, but not limited to, internet and social media based platforms as well as mobile phone applications.
