Become a Happiness Hero on 20 March a Day of Happiness

In 2012 Security Council of UN has proclaimed the 20th of March a world Happiness day. First time it was marked officially on 2013. Through this proclamation, the UN and the Secretary General recognize the importance of happiness for the people in the world.

The day chosen is no coincidence; 20thMarch is an equinox, when day and night are of equal length, giving extra weight to the day’s message of stability and peace.

UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon wants happiness to be a new indicator of global development. In his words : “People are now recognizing that ‘progress’ should be about increasing human happiness and wellbeing, not just growing the economy at all costs”

All 193 country members of the UN pledged to support the day and the idea of the Happiness Day.

UNDP Kosovo has created the hashtag #HappyKS with the aim to invite everyone to tweet, post and share their activities. The topic is “How I made (someone, friend, teacher, brother, sister, parent, etc) happy for the world happiness day?” We encourage people to be as creative as possible. Look on the internet and see what other people are doing and what could you do to mark this day?! Post your idea (photo/video/text) from 20 to the end of March 2014.

The authorsof the most original ideas that get followed and retweeted the most, and produce a much stronger impact, will be nominated for Happiness Heroes. Happiness Heroes fromall Communities from all over Kosovo will be invited to a ceremony to UN House in Pristina where they will be awarded Happiness heroes medals from UN Development Coordinator in Kosovo.
