Austrian Foreign Ministry, Austrian Development Agency, and UNDP Launch an Employment Generation Project
The Head of the Austrian Development Agency, Mr. Christian Geosits, and the UN Development Coordinator, Mr. Andrew Russell signed an agreement to boost employment in Kosovo on 27 February.
Austrian Foreign Minister, H.E. Sebastian Kurz, was also present at the launching ceremony of the Local level Response for Employment Generation and Integrated Territorial Development Project in Kosovo.
The two agencies have had a long standing cooperation with the municipalities in the region South, contributing to the improved livelihood of local communities. Through these project interventions, the citizens of the Municipality of Dragash/Dragaš, Shtërpcë/Štrpce and Suhareka/Suva Reka shall continue to benefit from the 1.6 million euro project implemented during the next 3 years and financed by the Austrian Development Agency and UNDP. The project will support the municipalities to deliver services on local economic development, while contributing to employment generation. As a result of the project, it is expected that: i) the capacities of municipal staff and structures involved in the provision of services for economic development and integrated rural development are strengthened; ii) new jobs and income generation opportunities are created through an improved market positioning and productivity of local micro and small enterprises, including farmers (smallholders) iii) bottom-up approaches and local-level concertation for employment generation are operationalized at the municipal level through Territorial Employment Pacts (TEPs).
